Certificate Of Occupancy
According to North Hempstead Town Code,
No building hereafter built can be occupied or used, in whole or in part, until a certificate of occupancy shall have been issued by the Building Commissioner certifying that such building conforms substantially to the permit and the requirements of law applying to buildings of its class and kind.
If your house was built prior to 1929 you would not have a Certificate of Occupancy. It may have a Certificate of Existing Use. If your house was built prior to 1929 and you do not have a Certificate of Existing Use, the Town of North Hempstead Expeditors can help you apply for one. If your house does not have a Certificate of Occupancy or you are unsure when your house was built, you should contact the Building Department of North Hempstead.
Certificate Of Completion
According to North Hempstead Town Code,
when work is performed under a permit but no certificate of occupancy is required, the Building Commissioner shall issue a certificate of completion if it is found that the proposed work has been completed substantially in accordance with the permit and the laws applicable thereto. This certificate also indicates the use or uses to which the structure or installation may be used and to what extent.
Engineer Certifications
Town of North Hempstead Expeditors has New York State certified engineers and licensed architects who deal with the affidavits and certifications needed to show that the building was in fact erected in conformity with the plans filed with the Building Department.
Electrical Certifications
According to North Hempstead Town Code, not only must a licensed electrician must be hired for electrical work but also requires an original Electrical Underwriter’s Certificate be submitted to the Town after any electrical work has been performed.
